Lawrence has exhibited in many group and one-man shows, including the prestigious Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum's "Birds in Art" and "Wildlife: The Artist's View" shows where his work has been chosen for their national tours. His art has also appeared as covers, illustrations and features in many outdoor magazines. Several sets of limited edition collector plates also feature his work. He's an instructor for wildlife art workshops and has written and illustrated an instructional book "Painting Wildlife Textures" published by North Light Books in 1997. A log cabin in the hardwood of northern Michigan, overlooking the North branch of the Manistee River, is home for the Lawrence family. The symbol preceding his signature in each of his paintings shows the importance of his family in his work. The oddly shaped "S" is for his wife, Susan (an accomplished basket maker and instructor), and the "M" and "B" represents their sons, Matthew and Brett. |

"Millennium Mallards" This is Rod Lawrence's only original winning Michigan stamp that is still available for purchase. This original was reproduced as limited edition prints for the duck stamp. This painting celebrates both the Millennium and the 25th Anniversary of the Michigan Waterfowl Stamp Program. |

Lawrence graduated with a fine arts degree, magna cum laude, from
the University of Michigan in 1973. Since then he has been working
full time as a professional artist. Some of his credits include being named the Michigan Ducks Unlimited
Artist of the Year in 1979 and the Michigan United
Conservation Club's Michigan Wildlife Artist of the Year in 1981.
He had the winning designs for the 1983 and 1990 Michigan Duck Stamps,
and the 1981, 1987, and 1992 Michigan Trout Stamps. His unprecedented
double win for both the 1995 Michigan Duck Stamp and the 1995 Michigan
Trout Stamp make him the only artist to have won seven Michigan Stamp
designs. In August 1999, he won the 2000 Michigan duck stamp design
which is sponsored by the Michigan Duck Hunters Assoc. w/cooperation
of the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources.
